Webinar: Stakeholder Engagement and Market Analysis

07 May 2024, online

TES Cluster CORRECT BANNER

On May 7, 2024, the Thermal Energy Storage Cluster hosted a webinar titled "Stakeholder Engagement and Market Analysis: from inhabitants to building owners and neighbourhood associations." This online event featured experts from four EU-funded projects: ECHO, BEST-Storage, HYSTORE, and ThumbsUp part of the TES initiative. These projects are all working towards a cleaner and more resilient Europe by advancing energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainability.

During the webinar, participants gained valuable insights into stakeholder engagement within the mentioned projects, the challenges and opportunities of TES implementation, and key lessons learned.

Speakers included:

  • Hugo Grasset, SOLINTEL (BEST Storage): "The BEST-Storage approach for complying with market needs and requirements"
  • Agatino Nicita, CNR (Hystore): "World Café meeting with a bottom-up approach to involve key stakeholders in the development of project pilot technologies and their application."
  • Maria Chiesa, beWarrant (ECHO): "Awareness raising activities to evaluate the potential socio-economic barriers for the large-scale diffusion of ECHO TES solutions"
  • Stefano Barberis (University of Genova): "Thermal Energy Storage - understanding needs, perceptions and motivations".

On March 22, 23, and 24, the Berdeago event, the Basque Sustainability Fair, took place in Durango.

Different companies gathered to showcase their products, technologies, and projects aimed at promoting sustainability. The fair featured a total of 42 companies divided into two sections: Energy exhibitors and Nature exhibitors.

BEST-Storage was presented by GIROA VEOLIA. The framework and objectives of the project were shared with visitors and fellow exhibitors, highlighting the ongoing efforts and goals to be achieved throughout the project's duration.

The participation at Berdeago provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the public and other industry representatives about the innovative BEST-Storage project.

DPA Forum & II Decarbonization Forum

5 June & 11 July 2024, Bilbao (Spain)

BEST-Storage partner, GIROA-VEOLIA, had the opportunity to participate in two different event in Bilbao, Spain: the DPA Forum and the Decarbonisation Forum, presenting the project, and giving a lecture on how to face future decarbonisation challenges through R&D.

DPA is an Innovation Forum in Architecture, Construction and Rehabilitation, and an annual meeting point where the industry can find, in a practical and simple way, solutions, techniques and innovative ideas to apply to the real projects of their daily activity. Last June more than 25 companies and groups met in Bilbao, where over the course of two days, about 14 of them gave lectures on materials, techniques, and innovation in both active and passive measures to improve energy efficiency in buildings.

On July 11, the II Decarbonization Forum took place at the Euskalduna Palace, organized by the Basque Country Energy Cluster. This event, the second meeting of the year for the Industry Decarbonization Forum, was coordinated by SPRI and organized by the industrial clusters forming the DCARTECH Alliance (Energy Cluster, Aclima, AFV, ClusterPapel, and Siderex). The forum featured the participation of more than 195 representatives from 72 Basque companies and entities, who addressed the challenges and opportunities offered by current and emerging technologies for the electrification of industrial energy consumption.

INTERNAL ACTIVITIES

    BEST-Storage - market article-1

In April 2024, the first Thermal Energy Storage Cluster Joint Newsletter was published.

In this edition, Hugo Grasset, the BEST-Storage project coordinator, discussed the project's strategic approach to aligning with market needs and requirements.

The BEST-Storage project implements a comprehensive Innovation Management Process, led by Solintel, which operates on three levels:

Level 1: Building blocks of innovation management

    • Focuses on identifying market opportunities, competitor monitoring, and IP management.
    • Develops strategies for market positioning and ownership structures for key exploitable results (KERs).

Level 2: Key Exploitable Result (KER) passports

    • Provides detailed IP and exploitation guidelines for each KER.
    • Establishes ownership and exploitation strategies, including revenue models and funding needs.

Level 3: Strategic vision and consolidation

    • Assesses potential business models and strategic alliances for integrating multiple KERs.
    • Develops financial projections and operational requirements for broader market applications.

This methodology includes rigorous economic assessments at demonstration sites to ensure the solutions are competitive and well-suited to market demands, ultimately providing value to both building occupants and consortium partners.
